Background:
The school was founded on its current site in 1931, since when additions have been made to the accommodation. Little of the original building remains. The school is fortunate to have a large field, and work is currently underway to redevelop the school grounds. Other facilities include a large hall, well-equipped for physical education and drama, and 'excellent' computer facilities with a computer suite and internet access. The school is located in a semi-rural area known locally as 'Software Valley'. It is part of the local community and within easy reach of farmland, woodland and a country park. Junior pupils attend specialist workshops taught by specialist teachers in science, maths, geography, art, technology and history, a timetable approach which 'provides pupils with a head start when they move to secondary school'. A range of out-of-school activities might include football, chess, French and cycling proficiency, and peripatetic teachers teach brass and violin. Nine Mile Ride raises money for several charities and has a 'very active' parent-teacher association.
