Background:

The Holt School was founded in 1931, which is set in its own grounds extending to 13 acres, with a shrubbery, gardens and playing fields. It is situated on the western side of the market town of Wokingham and serves the town and its surrounding villages. Facilities include a science block with nine laboratories, a sixth-form unit, and specialist blocks for mathematics, English, music, humanities, languages, eight technology rooms, a business studies centre and four arts areas as well as a large library. In addition to the national curriculum, the school offers courses in drama, music, art, Information Technology, physical education and health and social care. Excellent sports facilities include a sports hall, gym, athletics, football areas, nine tennis courts and two hockey pitches. The school offers netball, hockey, rounders, tennis, athletics, cross-country, football, trampolining and swimming. Each girl belongs to a house and takes part in music, dance, drama, art, mathematics and sport competitions. The school council meets five times a year to debate local, national and international issues, and girls also compete in national debating competitions, produce a newspaper, take part in concerts at venues such as the Albert Hall and raise substantial amounts for charity. There is an active parent-teacher association and an Old Girls' Association. The school has been awarded with Beacon Status (2002), Charter Mark (2002), Artsmark Gold (2004) and Sportsmark (2003). In the sixth form, there are 28 subjects on offer at AS and A level. The school aims to provide opportunities to the pupils to excel in a well-structured and supportive environment. A broad and balanced curriculum enables every student to develop her academic strength and personal talents. Highly qualified teachers work together with students to reach high standards of achievement.
