Background:
Whitelands Park Primary School opened in 1972. It was one of the first four schools in the county designed as open-plan environments to support team teaching with large open teaching areas and smaller group rooms. In July 1991 a permanent wing was built around a courtyard, incorporating open teaching areas and classrooms, a drama and music studio, resources room and a small kitchen. In 2002 the building was substantially modified considerably to suit the needs of the national curriculum. The grounds are divided between the essential requirements for hard surface and grassed area play and a further area which was designed as a quiet sitting area interspersed with herb gardens and flower beds. It has a wide range of extra-curricular activities including netball, football, rugby, athletics, orienteering, keep fit, dance, screen printing, batik, needlecraft, pottery, drama, poetry, gardening, computer, recorders and choir. The school curriculum covers the following subjects: English, mathematics, science, information and communication technology, religious education. The school aims to provide a caring and stimulating environment.
