Background:

Baylis Court is a multi-cultural community comprehensive school for girls and all pupils post 16 who meet entry requirements for the sixth form courses. Post 16 education is delivered through the Herschel Consortium, which comprises Herschel Grammar School, the Westgate School and Baylis Court School. In September 2003, the school opened two new ICT rooms. In addition, there are also three specialist ICT rooms, an ICT suite of 18 machines in the library, trolleys of radio linked laptops and extensive networked computers and internet facilities available across the school. Baylis Court School has been recognised for its outstanding success in a number of areas which include 'Investor in People' status, 'Healthy Schools Award', 'Artsmark Gold' award for outstanding achievement in the teaching and learning of all arts related subjects, 'Sportsmark' award with distinction for outstanding achievement in the teaching and learning of sport, 'Barclays New Futures' and 'Rock Challenge' which is a comprehensive drugs awareness campaign which is assessed on creative interpretation of contemporary music. In this the school's first entry was in 2003 during which it achieved the Performers Choice Award, and then it gained the Best Video Award in 2004.
