Background:
Chieveley Primary is a small rural school housed in a building which was opened in 1897. Additions over the years include a hall, library, offices, kitchen and a modular block linking the Victorian building by a modern glass walkway. The school is attractive and spacious and has large, well-developed grounds which back onto fields belonging to the local manor house. It is situated in the school grounds are a small copse and a fenced conservation area housing a well stocked pond. Both these areas are utilised for curriculum study. The school has strong links with the community and country dancing is a feature of the annual village fair held at the manor. The school Christmas fair is very much a community affair. Pupils work hard during the year to support both local and national charities. The very active parent-teacher association has worked hard to transform the school in the last five years, providing the school with a new library, refurbished hall and decorated classrooms. Their millennium project involved enhancing the school grounds by providing more hard open play space and equipment.
