Background:
Falkland Primary was built 30 years ago and comprises 12 classrooms in a main building and newer modern blocks. There is also a specialist ICT and Special Needs base. The site is quiet, in the Wash Common area, with seperate junior and infant hard playing surfaces and a large grass playing field. The school is very much part of the local community with close links to local church, youth and sports clubs, as well as the West Berkshire Music Centre. The school aims to produce 'well rounded individuals', and to this end runs a braod curriculum and offers numerous extra-curricular activities and residential trips. These include sports, art and crafts, foreign languages and science. The school also has a strong musical tradition, with pupils playng brass, woodwind, cello, violin and guitar. The school has also had good success recently in the local sporting competitions that it has entered. 'A close partnership with the parents is an important part of the ethos.' The school association is very active, helping to support the school, which also supports charities. Children have donated harvest gifts to Romania, held sponsored events for the NSPCC, and will sing in a concert in aid of 'Save the Children Fund'.
