Background:

The school opened in 1972 to serve children living in the south-east corner of Newbury. A nursery unit opened in 1983. An extension was added to the school in 1991, followed by further modular units in 1993 and 1999. Greenham Court enjoys 'some of the bast facilities that are available for a primary school'. It occupies 10 acres of grounds, much of which is devoted to playing fields, in addition to two hard play areas, an adventure playground and a fenced off wildlife area with pond. The building is modern, with 'striking' architecture. It offers a large hall which is fully equipped for gymnastics, a studio hall equipped for music and drama, two well-stocked libraries, four resource areas for art, craft, cooking and creative play, 13 fully carpeted class bases, each resourced to a high specification and containing at least one computer. Curriculum 2000 is taught throughout the school. It aims to provide opportunities for all children to take part in competitive sport such as football, netball, rounders, swimming and athletics. The school is a member of the District Sports Associations and takes part in the Area Sports and the District Swimming Gala. Instrumental tuition is undertaken by the Berkshire Young Musicians Trust for a fee. A number of extra-curricular activities is available and might include football, netball, table tennis, poetry, choir, recorder, country dancing and creative dance. An after-school club runs from 3.30pm to 6pm. The school is fortunate in having an active support group in the form of a parents, teachers and friends association. 'We provide a safe, stimulating environment for eachindividual child to devlop his or her potential to the full'.
