Background:

A 'leading Catholic school' since its establishment in 1966, the school serves the parishes of St John Bosco, Our Lady of Peace and Blessed Dominic Barberi, St Thomas More and the areas of Woodley, Winnersh, Charvil, Twyford, Wargrave and East Reading. It occupies a 'spacious and pleasant site' at the rear of the Parish Church of St John Bosco. It has its own playing fields, playgrounds and nature area with pond, situated adjacent to Woodford park. Facilities include a new computer suite opened by the Bishop of Portsmouth in 2000. Children are encouraged to widen their horizons by pursuing extra-curricular activities which currently include French, gardening, music, football, netball, cricket, rounders and hockey. Competitive teams participate regularly on an inter-school basis and the football and netball teams are very successful. Swimming is offered to non-swimmers in Year 3 during school time. There are three musical tuition groups for percussion, strings and woodwind. The school is 'proud of the contribution it makes towards serving the local community, with which it has strong links. Children raise substantial funds for charity. The school is over-subscribed in Reception. 'We aim to provide a happy and caring Catholic/Christian environment where the spiritual and moral development of the children is as important as their intellectual, physical and aesthetic development'.
