Background:

St Nicholas School, or the national school as it was known in its earliest days was instituted in 1811 and moved to a purpose-built building in 1859. In 1990, the school moved to a new building which was opened by Richard Harris, the Bishop of Oxford. In March 1997, after an extensive building programme, the school was rededicated by the bishop. Featured in the buildings are a well-resourced, spacious central reference library, a large science and technology area, a home economics area and a kiln. An information technology network supports learning across the curriculum and gives internet and email access. The school has a floodlit all-weather games area which facilitates year round outdoor activity. The school has a wide range of extra-curricular activities including choir, recorder, drama, calligraphy, knitting, chess, cycling proficiency, netball, football and cross-country. The school enjoys strong links with local churches and with the Oxford Diocesan Board of Education. The school aims to provide a happy, caring and stimulating environment for its children.
