Background:

Formerly a private school owned and run by nuns in a neighbouring convent, St Teresa's was handed over to the diocese and established as a voluntary-aided school in 1964; buildings extended in 1982, 1990 and 1995; most recent works included extension in 2001, rebuilding works in 2005, to provide two extra classrooms, ICT suite, new toilet and a pupil study. As a result of the school's association with the local language college, The Holt School, French and Spanish are taught in year three to six. A variety of extra-curricular activities is offered, notably the gardening club, in which children are responsible for planting and caring for vegetation around the school grounds. There is a clear mission statement emphasising the Christian context and strong links with the parish and wider community; strong links with Corpus Christi Parish Church, which is on the same site; parish priest acts as school chaplain. Children take part in many fundraising activities, raising money for local and national charities. The school is over-subscribed, with applications per place. The school has before-school care, from 07.55; after-school care, until 18.00. 'St Teresa's is a Catholic community that lives by Gospel values.
