Background:
Founded in 1848, St Nicolas' occupies 'good' accommodation and offers a 'stimulating' learning environment. There is an ICT room, new library, enclosed walkways, two hard surface areas outside with trees for shade and benches to sit on, as well as a sports field held in trust for the school. Pupils go on many curriculum-related outings including visits to galleries, museums, theatres and places of religious interest. The school offers a 'wide range' of extra-curricular activities. Pupils' charitable fundraising is 'extensive' and includes sponsorship for two children in South America. Links between school and parish are 'strong', as are all community links. Relationships with parents are also 'very good' and they are actively encouraged to become involved in school life, through classroom involvement and the 'active' parent teacher association (PTA). The school encourages children to 'think for themselves, to become independent learners and to reach their full potential'.
