Background:

The school opened in 1930 and is situated in a residential district one mile west of Windsor town centre. It aims to create a pleasant and secure environment and facilities include well-maintained classrooms, two fully-equipped science laboratories, an audio-visual area, large music room with adjacent practice rooms, well-stocked library, specialist art rooms, purpose-built technology rooms for textiles, home economics and design, well-supplied information technology room, fully-equipped gymnasium, three tennis and netball courts, a large open-air swimming pool and a playing field a short distance from the school. Trevelyan Middle believes in providing challenging and stimulating opportunities, both through the curriculum and through a range of other activities and its extensive extra-curricular programme includes sports, music, chess, computers, conservation and radio-controlled cars. It enjoys an outstanding reputation for music and has a steel band, orchestra, brass ensemble and large choir. It stages annual musical productions and participates in the annual Windsor schools music festival, while groups perform at old people's homes and other local venues. Peripatetic teachers give tuition in instruments for a fee. A strong house system provides opportunities for friendly competition in sports and teams play against other schools and participate in district and county events. Outdoor education is an integral part of the curriculum, from day trips to residential visits to the Lake District, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. Visits to Normandy reinforce the learning of French and every two years pupils from Years 7 and 8 have the opportunity to ski in Austria. The school also invites actors, musicians and educate to visit the school. There are strong links with local churches, fundraising is organised for a range of charities and a range of environmental initiatives is supported. The schools aims to provide a stimulating but also caring and stable environment.
