Background:

Situated to the west of Slough town centre; originally founded as Slough Technical School in 1943; moved to current site in 1957. The school adopted its name from Sir William Herschel, the astronomer, who came from Slough, and became Herschel Grammar School in 1984. Grant-maintained since April 1992. There are four fully-equipped computer rooms, with multimedia technology and a network of more than 180 computers. There is a sporting and cultural programme; also regular public performances of music and drama. The school participates in the mathematics challenge, Young Enterprise and newsday competitions. A £3 million sports complex has been completed: sports hall for badminton, cricket, hockey, netball, basketball and five-a-side football; also four new tennis courts, netball courts, an outdoor basketball court, and a full-size floodlit Astroturf pitch. Specialist technology college status from September 1994. Schools Curriculum Award (2000); Artsmark (2003); Sportsmark (2002); Investor in People status (1999); Leading Edge status (2003).
