Background:

Kennet School was opened in 1957 and was re-organised in 1971 as a co-educational comprehensive school. The school became a Technology College in September 2000. The school has close links with its local primary schools. Kennet was the first school in Berkshire to have a physically disabled resource established as an integral part of its educational programme. The school organises a large number of school trips ranging from regular theatre visits in the evening to field trips and journeys abroad. The school has always believed that sporting facility is central to the life of the school through a wide range of traditional team sports and many individual ones too. The school values its links with many local sports clubs including Thatcham Football Club, Thatcham and Newbury Rugby Clubs, Newbury Hockey, Netball Clubs and Newbury Athletics Club. The school was awarded a second specialism in Theatre Arts in 2005 and another in Languages in 2006. A new sixth form and drama block is planned to be opened in September 2007. The school aims to create a caring and stimulating environment and is concerned with the education and growth of all its pupils.
