Background:
Streatley Church of England Voluntary Controlled School was built in 1970s. It is a rural school set in leafy grounds at foot of Lardon Chase on ridgeway of Berkshire Downs. The school is located in village of Streatley, conservation area of outstanding natural beauty looking down onto River Thames. It occupies well-resourced building providing ample facilities, with its own swimming pool, well-equipped gymnasium, outdoor enclosed patios, adventure playground and wooded banks. It serves parishes of Streatley and Westridge Green, but also attracts pupils from further afield. It is a school where considerate behaviour and sound attitudes towards work produce is very high. In recent years, extra-curricular activities have included cycling proficiency, chess, football, cricket, folk dancing, green club and Le Club Francais. Over-subscribed, with 1.4 applications per place. Investor in People status (2005); DfES achievement award (2003). Ethos: 'Christian values of respect, concern for others, and a belief in truth'.
