Background:

Building work has created an upper storey in oldest part of school to provide space for well-stocked library, which opened in 2003; computerised resources available for loan and small study groups. School hall used for gymnastics and dance. Playground and playing field used for a variety of games: football, cricket, rugby, netball, rounders, short tennis unihoc, and athletics. External qualified coaches used for football, rugby, cricket and athletics. Swimming three times a week in second half of summer term; parent-teacher association funds ASA swimming teacher. Seven mixed-ability classes organised by year-group basis. Strong links with St Mary's Church and St Martin's Church. Literacy at heart of all areas of learning; taught daily. Extra-curricular activities include choir, dance, environment club, French, guitar, ICT, judo (with specialist coach), Latin, and recorders. Full programme of day trips to support topic work; Year 6 pupils make residential visit to an activity centre, such as Barton Hill in Devon. 'We aim to provide a happy, caring and stimulating environment where your child can grow and learn guided by good teaching using a mixture of whole class, group and individual teaching methods.'
